Shine makes hair look healthy, people tend to comment on your hair if it looks shiny, however, shiny hair isn’t always hair that is in the best condition.

The darker the hair, the shinier it is and there is a reason for this. Shine is created by the light on the surface of the hair being reflected. So for blondes, when bleach is used on the hair it is dying out the hairs pigment so the inner core is colourless meaning that when light shines on the hair, rather than it bouncing back off and giving shine, it is transparent and goes through the hair meaning that no reflection is given off.

In the cortex of the hair the pigment is coloured on darker and red shades, this is what the light reflects on. To get blonde hair to shine more permanently the inner structure of the hair needs to be smoothed out with a product that will fill in the gaps where the pigment is colourless and form a base for the light to bounce off. The other way to get a quick fix shine is the use of a finishing product.

In our salon we have found that the Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine spay is fantastic on Asian/Indian hair, as the hair tends to be a lot thicker and feels much coarser, if you spray the Glimmer Shine onto a paddle brush first and then brush your hair through it will smooth the hair over and add shine. Stylists also like to use the spay on hair extensions (as they can become dull and look lifeless after a while of being in the hair) and lightly sprayed over the hair after it has been put up, this works great on bridal hair ups as well.
