Black Hair, Asian.

Unlike Afro-Caribbean hair, Asian hair is very thick and has twice the diameter than Caucasian hair and the cuticle is almost twice as thick. Asian people have around 80,000 to 140,000 hairs on their scalp which is a lot more than Caucasian hair and grows faster than other hair at an astonishing rate of 1.3cm per month. However Asian hair has higher porosity levels so they retain moisture quickly but because it is normally long and thicker the moisture can be lost just as quick as it is retained. In Asian hair the medulla (on the inner structure of the hair) is filled with plenty of dark pigment and this is what is believed to give off the amazing shine that Asian people tend to get with their hair, but if the hair is overloaded with product the scalp and hair can quickly become greasy leaving the hair feeling heavy and lifeless. As Asian hair is so thick it is more resistant when it comes to chemical services, this means that higher concentrated chemicals need to be used on the hair to break down the pigment to achieve lighter tones of colour and get the best results when it comes to chemically straightening or perming. With the right professional hair care products and our knowledge you can learn the tricks of the trade so your hair regime works best in your hair.

We feel it is imperative for people with Asian hair to brush their hair before they wash it; a good brush through with a soft bristle brush, or paddle brush will help remove any extra build up of product on the scalp and get rid of loose skin cells so the scalp can then take nutrients and minerals when shampooing. As the hair generally is extremely thick sometimes one shampoo isn’t enough to remove build up so make sure the scalp gets a good scrub with fingertips and two shampoos to properly clean it. Shampoos that smooth and hydrate the hair are highly recommended with ingredients like avocado oil that is high in vitamin A, D and E it can help tame unruly hair. Beeswax and Glycerine are both included into shampoos to strengthen the hair and retain moisture.

After shampooing, choosing a salon professional conditioner to smooth and moisturise the hair, with ingredients, ceramides, proteins and amino acids to nurture any weakened areas of the hair. Weekly deep conditioning hair masks add moisture and repair any dry or damaged areas in the hair. These hair treatments penetrate deep into the cortex of the hair working from within to smooth, add shine and hydrate, while botanical ingredients and lycopene can put life back into the hair giving it a boost, with the added help of glycerine to help restructure the hair from the inside out. Look for ingredients like, argan oil, avocado il and linseed oil which is carrier oil; when applied they do not leave any residue in the hair making them extremely lightweight. Leave in conditioners are also excellent to use (especially in hair that loses moisture quickly).  Active ingredients will work for longer in the hair as it is being dried.
