Coloured Hair - Proven Ways To Improve Greasy Coloured Hair Conditions

How to Keep Your Hair Moisturised - Coloured Hair

Suffering from a greasy scalp is no fun and using a shampoo that removes the oil from it can make the ends of hair look dry and coarse. It's the same story even if you have coloured hair.

Scalps become greasy because of overactive sebaceous glands. These glands lay at the base of each hair strand and produce sebum which is an oil that keeps hair looking shiny and healthy. However, there are a few things that can push the sebaceous glands into overdrive, such as teenage hormonal changes, pregnancy and menopause.

In the salon we often find that many teenagers suffer from greasy hair. This may be because they do not wash their hair often enough or they are not rinsing the shampoo or conditioner out properly, causing a build up in the hair which makes it look dull. If this is the case then making sure the shampoo and conditioner are rinsed out properly is essential.

Shampooing hair twice is always a good idea as the first shampoo gathers all the products or build up from the hair and the second shampoo cleans the hair thoroughly.

Environmental factors, such as air pollution and humid weather, can also cause the scalp to become greasy. This doesn’t help matters, especially if you tend to sweat, and can make the scalp worse.

If you are sure you are rinsing out your shampoo and conditioner properly but your scalp is still getting greasy quite quickly, there are ways to treat it.

Firstly, use the right oil-free shampoo or a product that clarifies the hair. Different products are available for coloured hair.

Secondly, avoid putting conditioner on the scalp as this could make it even more greasy. Where coloured or dry hair is concerned, just apply the conditioner to the ends or use a leave-in conditioner to keep your hair hydrated. This way just the shampoo is being used on the scalp.

A dry shampoo can also be great to use, to save having to wash hair every day. Just spraying the shampoo along the roots of your hair will dry any oil from your scalp and give your hair an extra day or so before it needs to be washed again.

By using the right haircare products properly you can turn your greasy scalp into healthy hair.
