Glamour, Hair Accessories, Hair Care, Hair Products - posted by Hair 1 Direct Team on January 19th, 2012No Comments »

There are a million and one things to organise about when you’ve said “YES” to a marriage proposal. Hair, makeup and fake tan are some of the more glamorous things to do and one’s we are focusing on today! Here’s a checklist just for you to help plan your perfect wedding!

1. Take some ideas of potential wedding hair to your stylist or salon, plus photos of your wedding gown. This enables your stylist to plan your look to suit the dress and create a unique schedule for you and your hair leading up to your big day. This will include cuts; colours and conditioning treatments to get your hair in tip top condition.

2. It is essential to take a camera to ALL your bridal appointments, this way you can keep a record of what works and what doesn’t. This enables you time to look at your photos privately and decide on a look that you’re totally happy with. When going to your fittings, whether it is for your dress, your hair, your make up or your flowers; bring with you as much information as possible. This allows your chosen specialist to build up a complete picture of how your day will look and feel.

Another great tip – Show the stylist your veil, headdress and any other accessories this way they can develop a style to suit all these elements.

3. Have a style already in mind? Consult your stylist about how you can prepare to achieve this, whether is be specific products, hair extensions or hairpieces make sure you give yourself enough time to achieve your desired look.

4. Wanting longer hair? A growing spree should commence at least 12 months before your wedding day; this also gives you enough time to train your hair. If you still need help, hair extensions are an option. Hair extensions not only can add extra length, but volume and extra colour too!

Tip – Wella SP Balance Scalp shampoo, Wella SP Balance Scalp Serum, Wella SP Hydrate Conditioner and Moroccan Oil treatment can all be used to aid hair fuller hair growth. Patrick Cameron has a fantastic range of hair pads and pieces to help accentuate fuller ‘up-do’ styles.

5. Worried about the cost of your hair? You can become a hair model for salons that are advertising. This way you can try out lots of different haircuts and colours to find your desired look. You don’t need to look like a model to be a model and the work is always supervised and at a smaller fee.

6. Don’t forget to book for the BIG day in advance as we can get booked up, especially in summer time!

7. Get a timeless colour that you will always look back on and adore. Book a consultation with your hair stylist/hair colourist to try help you decide. Once you have your chosen look maintain it! Use products to lock in that colour and keep your hair looking vibrant and shiny. Wella SP Colour Shampoo helps prevent fading and Wella SP Colour Conditioner locks the colour in. Wella also do Alchemy treatments to prevent hair from fading and also moisturises the hair, the treatment is great value for money as it lasts up to 4 weeks.

8. Don’t forget to try out some fake tans and glow on your special day!

Your wedding went brilliantly, your hair, dress, and make up all looked stunning. You’re now completely relaxed by the swimming pool. Yes, you even need to look after your hair while on your honeymoon. The last thing you want is to look back at your pictures and see dry lifeless limp hair. We recommend some products so this never happens.

Wella SP After Sun shampoo to remove any residue such as chlorine or sea salt.

Wella SP After Sun conditioner to moisturise sun stressed hair.

Moroccan Oil to protect your hair and keep that shinny, healthy look while sun bathing.

• Wella SP hydrate finish,, a leave in-conditioner that detangles and moisturises your hair while you’re in the sun.

• Got curly hair? Your locks will need as much nourishment as possible. Curl cream from the Moroccan Oil range would be a great choice for you.

…And finally remember something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue and a silver six pence for your shoe!

Predicted Hair Trends of 2012

Glamour, Hair Products - posted by Hair 1 Direct Team on January 17th, 2012No Comments »

New York’s Fashion week is always a one stop extravaganza for up at coming fashion trends as well as hair trends. Here we have handpicked some gorgeous looks straight from the catwalk that we predict you will be wearing in 2012.

GLAMOROUS CHIGNONS & SLEEK PONYTAILS:

Audrey Hepburn has long been touted as a role model for style and her 1950′s sleek ponytails, chignons and topnotches and it appears they are back in 2012. They made a big impression in New York in the Naheem Khan shows. To get this look the hair stylist treats the hair with a flat iron before parting to one side. The hair is then gathered at the nape of the neck and divided into several sections, tightly twist the hair and then put up with grips. Add high gloss products such as Sebastian Professional shine and define to intensify this elegant appearance. This is perfect sophisticated evening look and looks gorgeous with a plain dress, a pair of killer heels and smoky makeup.

THE MOD BOB

Bring back the 60′s again. The fashion world is constantly looking to reinvent retro trends and the Mod vibe is no exception. However the Mod bob is not actually a 1960′s style but rather borrows three rather iconic 1960′s styles and turns them into this masterpiece. From Jackie O we get this original bob shape, from Bardot we get volume and from Twiggy this look steals her parting. Keep an eye out for this one in Vogue, it’s hot and not expected to flop.

WET LOOK

This look first seen at the Milan Fashion week by Bottega Veneta. This is for all you ladies who want to set the trend in 2012. ALthough not for the faint hearted this is a style that is perfect for them days when you havn’t got much time. This wet loosely styled chignon is made possible by applying volumising mouse such as Wella SP Hero Mix mousse through towel dry hair and let it absorb and dry naturally. To get that wet look apply Argon Oil’s like MoroccanOil using your fingers. This will give you that silky shine. Use your finger tip to pull the hair back into a ponytail and loosely tie level with your ears. Wrap the pony tail into a messy low bun/ chignon and secure with pins. There you have it an effortless style as if you have jumped straight out of the pool.

HIGH IMPACT HAIR:

Thakoon, Narciso Rodriguez and Peter Som all incorporated these daring pastel shades in NY’s Fashion week shows. This seems to have continued from the outrageous celebrity colours that were sported in 2011 with Lady GaGa’s daring neon blue colour, to Katy Perry’s bubblegum pink and Kelly Osborne’s ashy grey colour, however this year it’s all about the pastels. So whether the hair is dyed all over or dip dyed we think these colours may prove to be popular as spring comes around the corner.

So there you have it, our predicted trends for 2012 that (and I think you will agree) are so hot that they make last weeks 2011 trends seem “So last Year”. Have a great 2012 and spoil your hair rotten.

Our Favourite Hair Trends Of 2011

Glamour - posted by Hair 1 Direct Team on January 5th, 2012No Comments »

Here are some of our favourite hair trends from the past year.

1. The Chelsea Blow Dry.

Fashioned by Kate Middleton this year, the Chelsea Blow Dry is best suited for people that have shoulder blade length hair. Many people like this style because unlike most haircuts you could get away without cutting it again for up to 12 weeks. Even though it looks like one colour all over there are different tones of brunettes and mahoganies to give a 3D effect making the hair look fuller. To create this look, blow dry the hair in sections with a large round brush then roll the hair in Velcro rollers and leave for 30 minutes, take the rollers out flip your head upside down and use your fingers to separate the curls.

2. Dip Dye Colour Techniques

This has been trending with a few celebrities for the past couple of years but really hit a global trend with different interpretations. This style looks better on longer hair and the colours can either be bold for example dark brown to bleach blonde on the ends, or a subtle brown into a sun kissed natural looking colour on the ends. Celebrities like Nicola Roberts, Alexa Chung and Stacey Soloman have been big fans of this hair style this year.

3. Red Hair.

Rihanna, Florence Welch and Scarlett Johanson have kept red hair colour alive throughout this year fashioning colours form bright red, to deep plums, coral shades and coppers that were sported through the summer months although they are high maintenance, red can suit most people. Olive skin tones suit darker shades and pale skin tones suit the copper and coral shades that really accentuate eye colours.

4. The Bowl Haircut.

Early this year saw the big festival trend of the ‘bowl’ haircut that many men wore. Shaved short round the back and sides and not blended in, this haircut suited straight hair, curly hair or even hair that was quiffed up, it was sported by lots of men like Olly Murs and Marcus from X factor both carried these styles out throughout the autumn and winter months.

5. Top Knots for Summer

This summer saw the rise of the top knot up do, or otherwise known as the ballerina bun, which worked great when on holiday and became a hot trend for the festival seasons! Best for medium to longer length hair, turn your head upside down and brush it into a high ponytail, then wrap the ponytail around the headband and pin it so it looks like a bun. It can be worn tight or pulled apart a bit for a scruffier effect. Many celebrities wore this style throughout the year like Whitney Port, Sienna Miller and Natalie Portman.

5. Fishtail Plaits

It started this year with Emma Bunton having a fishtail plait on dancing on ice and it has become a bit of a craze especially online with many educational videos of how to do them. The good thing is they can be as neat or messy as you like so if you have layers it can still work. They have also been seen on Leona Lewis and Kim Kardashian.

7. Gary Barlow’s Haircut.

Gary Barlow came back with a bang on X Factor this year with his charming looks and very popular haircut. Lots of men have been having ‘The Gary Barlow’ haircut which is a very short number 1 round the back and sides and parted over to the side in a slight quiff on top.

8. The wavy bob.

This was a very big autumn trend this year that was worn by Cheryl Cole for the L’oreal Elnett campaign, by Alexa Chung on the front cover of Vogue and Penelope Cruz on the front cover of GQ, a simple stylish haircut with some layers and just slightly curled with the straighteners to give some movement.

9. The Crop.

Many women have cut their hair of short this year which has been a massive trend, starting with Frankie from the Saturdays and going shorter with Emma Watson after she finished filming for Harry Potter got rid of her long locks.

10. Adeles Bun.

Adele has definitely had a big year and we all still want her hair! It has become so popular that you can now buy a ‘faux bun’ that you can attach to your hair if you find you can’t put your hair up yourself.

So there you have it, that was a little round up of some of the best hair styles of 2011. Tune in next week for our 2012 predictions.
