We have been noticing a big trend recently in the celeb world of fashion and hair in the last couple of weeks. Nearly everyone is wearing maxi dresses and to complement them we’re either seeing ‘updone updos’ or ‘top knot’ hairstyles! And the great thing about them is that you can do them yourself…
The top knot (when done right) can look very effective and really enhance eye make up and show off high cheekbones. They have been spotted on Nicky Hilton, Sarah Jessica Parker and Whitney Port.
There are many ways to wear this top knot, whether you have a fringe or keep some bits of your hair down or prefer keeping your hair completely of your face this look can be adapted to suit all. To get this style to look done, start by blow drying you hair smooth with a Tigi Catwalk Sleek Mystique Blow out Balm to get gloss and shine on the hair, then with a paddle brush smooth it through eventually getting it into a high ponytail (the higher the better) so it is sitting on the top of your head, then tightly wrap the hair around the hairband to create a bun effect, and secure it in with curby grips. Use a firm hairspray like Tigi Bed Head Materpiece and a shine spray Tigi S Factor Shiny Happy People to keep the hair looking sleek. Like Gemma Arterton:

For more of a causual look the same technique is applied, instead of wrapping the hair round tightly do it more loose to get more of a scruffy look. Also by waving/curling the hair with straighteners first, can make this updo a lot more casual and summery and pulling a few bits down around the face so it doesn’t look so harsh can be very effective as well.

Use products like Sebastian Whipped Cream to enhance any waves or curls that you have naturally to save time with the straighteners for a more natural look. And Tigi’s Catwalk Your Highness shine spray is very lightweight so will give a natural looking sheen to the hair.
The second hair up we are loving this week and have seen celebs like, Jennifer Lopez, Victoria Beckham and Rachel Stevens wearing is the ‘Undone Updo’s.’ This is great as again it is a very casual hair up that can look very dressed up when worn with the right clothes and jewellery, it is great for side fringes as they can be kept down or for that popular middle parting that keeps creeping up on the red carpet. Our favourite is Eva Longoria Parkers, as you can see although it probably took hours to do it doesn’t look like it. To get the waves and smoothness, setting your hair with TheO rollers first would give the hair a good foundation to work with, you can then sweep your side fringe across with your straighteners or go for a summer wave effect at the front if the hair is in a middle parting like Eva’s is. Once the hair is set and dressed out, all you need to do is pin bits back to make it look free spirited and wind blown. Giving some backcombing at the root will enable you to get some volume and height in the hair to make this style look a lot more formal. The other thing we love about this style is that being quite easy to do, it can be very beachy and a great way to style your hair glamorously when on holiday.

So girls get your products, curby grips, rollers and straighteners out to be on trend with our favourite celebs this season!
