How to Maintain your Hair Colour

How to Maintain Coloured Hair - Coloured Hair Advice

When it comes to coloured hair we all want our colour to look fresh and vibrant for as long as possible. However on a daily basis we are all guilty of putting our hair under stresses and strains that will have a negative effect on our hairs colour.

One of the biggest culprits that almost everyone subjects their hair too is heat. With today’s culture we all want to create different styles, this involves excessive amounts of heat. One of the most popular heated stylers is hair straighteners. Hair straighteners have become increasingly popular over the years and are being used more and more at home and in the salon to create a wide variety of looks and styles, from curly to straight.

Although hair straighteners are a quick and easy way of creating hair styles, if you do not protect your hair this can be a big factor when it comes to your colour fading. Apply heat to your hair will lead to your hair drying out and taking out all the moisture. This then leads to the colour molecules being released from the hair and resulting in your colour looking dull and this then leads to your hair looking dry.

Coloured Hair - Maintain Your Hair Colour

One great way of protecting your colour and keeping it rich for longer is making sure you use the right hair care products at the right time during your hair care regime.

When it comes to shampooing and conditioning your hair and the number one area that you want to focus on is keeping your colour fresh you need to use shampoos and conditioners that contain beeswax. Beeswax will help to lock in the colour pigments in the hair; the beeswax helps to moisture and hydrates the hair. Meaning that your hair will not release the colour pigments due to it being dry and dehydrated.

Once you have shampooed and conditioned your hair to give your hair added protection apply a heat protecting spray to damp towel dried hair then dry into the hair. By applying the protection spray to damp hair and drying it in this will lock in the moisture and create a protective barrier around the hair stopping any damage occurring to the hair.

It is key when maintaining coloured hair that you ensure that you keep it well hydrated and properly protected against heat. These are the two main reasons for colour fading and with the right products with the right ingredients you will be able to keep you colour looking and feeling great for longer.
