We all face different problems when it comes to trying to maintain our hair colour. This can be down to our hair type and the kind of environmental stresses that we put our hair under. With all of us trying to fight colour fading and colour shifting we need to use products that are designed to help our hair type and will also keep your colour looking fresh and vibrant for longer

Colour fading is when the colour appears ‘washed out’ and ‘more transparent’ in comparison to the original colour. By reducing this, the vibrancy of the colour will be preserved and last longer. Colour shifting is the tonal changes of the colour, so a neutral brown can shift to a reddish-brown or a greenish-brown. Colour freshness describes the vividness or dullness of a colour, by decreasing the colour depth, the colours purity is more lost.

There are many things that can cause the above scenarios, researchers have implicated that the sun/UV light plays the biggest factor in not only drying the hair out but causing the colour to fade. Finding a product with UV/light and antioxidants protection will help the hairs condition and colour. UV filters minimise the amount of UV light that reaches the hair and reduces the number of excited molecules in the hair which can lead to degradation/damage. Antioxidants neutralise free radicals in the hair. Free radicals are very reactive, aggressive molecules generated from excited molecules, oxygen and water can damage the colour and/or the hair itself.

A particular combination that we find works really well and we use in our salon on a daily basis is Wella SP Colour Save. We have put together a 3 peice bundle that we have seen time and time again prove itself as one of the best colour care systems in the professional hair care world.
